Osaka Is Becoming the Digital Nomad’s Second Home
A Vibrant Finale: 92 Nomads Joined the Deep‑Dive Experience at Digital Nomad Week Osaka 2026
Inspired by Hideyoshi’s mastery of bringing people together, we reimagined tea ceremonies and hanami as modern networking experiences for digital nomads. With eight events and 92 attendees, the week wrapped up with incredible energy. Let’s look back at what made it special.
Unfiltered, Unscripted, and Un-touristy — The Japan You’ve Been Missing
One of the most talked‑about moments of the entire program was our main event on April 9: “Local Tram Ride & Deep Osaka Culture Journey (Sakai City).”
We hopped onto a retro local tram and made our way to Sakai—the hometown of Sen no Rikyu. There, participants visited a traditional knife‑forging workshop that carries on centuries‑old swordsmithing techniques, and even tried their hand at forging.
In the evening, we rented out a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese house (anywhere café), where locals joined us for a cozy, communal dinner. We cooked rice over a kamado stove, shaped fresh onigiri together, and shared songs and laughter to the sound of a live sanshin performance.
It became a night that perfectly embodied the program’s theme: deep, cross‑cultural connection that goes far beyond tourism.
Local Partners × Digital Nomads: A Growing Culture of Co‑Creation
One of the biggest achievements of this program wasn’t just connecting with participants—it was building deep, lasting trust with the local partners who co‑created the experience with us.
From tea master Komiya‑sensei of the Urasenke school, to Ikasuri Shrine, to calligraphy artist Zane, and to Mr. Koshiba of anywhere café who hosted the Sakai tour—each professional brought their craft and passion to the program. We’ve already agreed to continue co‑hosting events together, strengthening these partnerships even further.
What’s more, the synergy didn’t stop there. During the Brioche Meetup, one participant even proposed, “Next time, I want to co‑host the meetup with you.” Moments like this show a powerful shift: participants are no longer just attendees—they’re becoming co‑creators, shaping the future of the community alongside us.
■ Looking Ahead: Growing Interest from Municipalities and Companies Across Japan
The success of this program—and the visibility it gained on social media—has led to a growing number of inquiries from companies, coworking spaces, and local governments nationwide. Many are seeking to collaborate with us on similar digital‑nomad initiatives for the coming seasons.
Building on the Osaka model inspired by Hideyoshi’s legacy, The DECK Inc. will continue expanding its program design and production efforts, serving as a bridge that connects digital nomads with local communities across Japan.
