Reusable Bag Share System - Sustainability Initiative

The DECK has initiated a bag share system for users bringing food back to the office!

Environmental sustainability is necessary to implement into your daily routine. While it may feel like there is little you can do to help the environment, by staying environmentally conscious and considerate about the waste you produce can make a larger impact than you realize.

Going to the convenience store, grocery store, or even buying a bento from a stand, you are often given plastic bags immediately upon your purchase. In 2019, Japan generated approximately 4.1 tons of plastic waste, putting itself in the top 10 countries with the most plastic waste. Even if you are traveling Japan, it is still important to be considerate of the waste you produce.

One of The DECK’s sustainable development goals is responsible consumption and production. In order to pursue this goal, we are shifting our attention to decreasing the use of plastic instead of the recycling of plastic. By addressing the issue at its root cause, we aim to educate The DECK members about plastic use while minimizing the amount of plastic that enters The DECK.

Feel free to ask The DECK staff about the bag share system and our other sustainability initiatives.

We hope you enjoy the bags and “SAY ‘NO’ TO PLASTIC!”

Make sure you say “Fukuro wa nashide onegaishimasu” (“No bag please.”) quickly or you might end up with a plastic bag inside your reusable one!

Do you need a reusable tote bag outside of the office?

Well, The DECK Sustainability Initiative bags are also on sale! Ask us at the front desk or contact us about purchasing your reusable tote.
