【Event】Immerse Yourself in Japanese Tradition: 'The Awakening' Event

On October 8th, in collaboration with The DECK, HINOMARU is hosting “The Awakening.”

Japan has a rich history spanning more than 38 hundred years, characterized by a deep-rooted culture that emanates tradition and community. Those in western countries often experience a surface level version of Japanese culture; anime, manga, sanrio, and nintendo.

Zane, who goes by Street Jizo is an American creator that has been living in Japan for over 5 year.

G-ZO, an experience curator, designer, Zen practitioner, and founder of “HINOMARU” is creating events that allow people to delve into Japanese culture. Culture that has been an integral part of Japanese society for thousands of years.

G-ZO’s philosophy centers around the Zen concept of embracing the present moment fully. Every action should be approached with intentionality and clarity. By understanding the steps that lead to each individual moment, one can experience life at a different level. His goal is to present people with an opportunity to explore intentionality through Japanese cultural experiences.

The Awakening

“The Awakening” is an immersive experience into Japanese culture and Zen practices. This event leads you through meditation, teaches calligraphy, and lets you experience a variety of Japanese teas, all while wearing G-ZO’s custom designed samue. Only 10 people may participate in this event to ensure an intimate experience with the culture and other participants.

A samue is the traditional working attire of Japanese Buddhist monks and nuns. G-ZO alters the fabric, colors, and small details of the samue while maintaining the traditional silhoutte. These custom clothes are provided to those in attending “The Awakening” to enhance each participants experience.

The DECK has been supporting G-ZO through his creative entrepreneurship for the 2 years he has been a drop-in member. Through his productions in the FAB Lab and using our broadcasting studio for the YouTube channel “Kansai Kollective,” The DECK is happy to support entrepreneurs in their creative endeavors.

Hosting an event that introduces a deeper understand of Japanese culture is exciting opportunity. The community at The DECK is full of international location-independent entrepreneurs or digital nomads, and finding ways to spread and exchange different cultures is something that The DECK strongly values.

The Awakening will be a wonderful experience for all those in attendance and The DECK is excited to continue its support and collaborations with G-ZO.
