“The DECK was not only a space to work, but a place to expand your network and build a community.”

Spain, Monthly Member

Jorge, a graphic and digital designer from Spain traveled to Japan for one month in April 2023 and was a monthly member at The DECK. He currently lives in Vancouver, Canada, and has been there for the last 10 years, but he enjoys being a nomad because it has let him move to various cities and experience a little bit of everything.

Jorge found The DECK on Google Maps and was looking for “a space to build new relationships and friends for the long term.”

“I wanted an international environment, so I put more attention towards sites in English,” he mentioned. Therefore, The DECK’s English-speaking staff and website were a major factor during his decision process.

When asked about his experience he said the following: “As you could imagine it was great. I had the opportunity to work and focus and also had short conversations with people at The DECK, and little by little they became the people you see every day, which led to deeper conversations.”

“The three highlights are the environment, price, location, and staff. The DECK was a very welcoming community and the price is very competitive for the things you receive. The location is close to the station and was close to where I was staying so it was perfect. The staff could also communicate in English, which made it a lot easier to connect. They are also very friendly and became my friends”

The DECK was not only a space to work, but a place to expand your network and build a community. Especially for people who are creative, it is nice to have a welcoming space where you can see what others are creating. It helps if you see other people working around you and at THE DECK you always see people working and having meetings, so it is a place where I could be concentrated and work.

He ultimately chose The DECK immediately after touring because other coworking spaces in the area were not what he was looking for and felt too big.

“In a place that is very big you feel like nobody cares, but if it is a space where you feel a part of it, then you can enjoy that experience of working and feeling more integrated.”

“I still keep the card from The DECK,” he detailed. It is apparent that Jorge highly values his experience at The DECK and the close connections he made with the staff and other members.
